Improv JAM...

...is a playful, bespoke, open workshop for all the family. Whether you fancy dancing, drawing, colouring or selecting the music for the live DJ, the JAM is a safe, non-judgemental place where parents and children can explore the wonderful world of play...together.

Improv JAM is a place to release the stress and pressures of contemporary living; put down that mobile phone and start to connect with others in the space. The JAM will BE an active space of movers, shakers, sketchers and listeners, taking time to take notice of others. The workshop will be a space full of new learning about improvised movement, free drawing and sound with professional artists, recognising the impact of our creative choices to give inspiration to each other. Improv JAM will give participants time and space to mindfully recognise their actions in a present context, with perfection and mistakes, repeated actions and one-off moments celebrated in equal measure. Improvisation jams are generous, social events where individual and collective actions are cherished; the JAM will celebrate community action and collaborative process in this same way.

A series of previous JAM events have successfully bought together artists and families to experiment and play together in one creative space. The JAMs can be drop in sessions, held across a number of hours for the public to engage through moving, drawing, watching and decision making. Whether you are big or small,  the Improv JAM is a place to express yourself.

Originally created by and for lecturers and their families at the Arts University Bournemouth to let off steam. This is a collaboration between professional dancer Jenna Hubbard and Site33.

Performances can be between 30-180 minutes long.

Technical Requirements:

A covered space (could be an open tent).

Ideally, a hard floor, some of which will be covered with large pieces of paper. It is possible for the JAM to take place on mats or large carpets, but not directly on turf/lawn.

All other materials and equipment will be brought with us.

Public Liability Insurance, PAT testing and PRS licenses available on request.

We will be creating a low impact performance that promotes wellbeing. All of the paper that is used during the JAM will be recycled, our energy usage is minimal and we will be car sharing to reduce our environmental impact.
